Find Pet-friendly Accommodation in Great Ocean Road

Take a drive on the spectacular Great Ocean Road, which winds alongside the wild and windswept Southern Ocean.

Home to the world-class surf at Bells Beach and the craggy limestone spires of the 12 Apostles, this diverse and dramatic region is best explored over the course of a few days.

The Great Ocean Road begins just 90 minutes’ drive from Melbourne's city centre. It spans 400 kilometres from Torquay to Nelson on the South Australian border.

Logans Beach located in Warrnambool is a must see if you’re interested in whale watching! Dogs are welcome at Logans Beach off the lead all year long, so if you’re travelling down the Great Ocean Road with your dog, then it’s a great place to stop and stretch the legs.

The Camperdown to Timboon rail trail stretches for 34 kilometres and is located inland off the Great Ocean Road. Whether you’re looking for a hike or a short stroll, the rail trail is sure to appeal to man and dog! Stop off at the Timboon Railway Shed Distillery for a rest, they provide water bowls for thirsty pets!

If you’re stopping off in Princetown Township, then head to the Serpentine Boardwalk on Old Coach Road East. Dogs are permitted all year round as long as they are on a leash.

Don’t forget a lot of areas along the Great Ocean Road are national parks and marine parks and dogs are not permitted. In particular, it’s important to remember dogs are not allowed in the Port Campbell National Park; this includes the 12 Apostles.

Don’t worry your dog won’t be car-bound, just a 40-minute drive down the Great Ocean Road from the Twelve Apostles, and you’ll arrive in Johanna. Johanna Beach welcomes dogs off the lead at any time of year, so make sure you bring the SPF and a frisbee!

There’s no doubt that Victoria is full of great coffee and great cafes. The Great Ocean road is no exception. If you’re making the trek down the Great Ocean Road, there are plenty of cosy places to stop off for a morning brew with your pup.

Things to do with your dog on the Great Ocean Road:

• Enjoy a road trip with the breeze blowing through your fur
• Swim and surf on a dog-friendly beach
• Walk the Camperdown to Timboon rail trail
• Stretch your legs and maybe spot a whale at Logans Beach
• Play frisbee and frolic at Johanna Beach
• Take a coffee break at the many pet-friendly cafes
