Find Pet-friendly Accommodation in Hobart

Australia’s second-oldest city and southernmost capital, Hobart dapples the foothills of Mt Wellington, angling down to the slate-grey Derwent River.

The city's rich collection of colonial architecture and natural charms are complemented by innovative festivals, eclectic markets and world-class food and drink experiences.

Salamanca Market, held in Salamanca Place by the waterfront each Saturday, is one of Australia’s most vibrant outdoor markets. The markets sell the biggest selection of locally made products including art, furniture, clothing, fresh produce, delicious hot foods and of course doggy accessories and treats.

The market recently introduced puppy parking, which allows you to leave your dog safe in the care of an RSPCA volunteer for up to two hours in return for a donation that goes directly to the RSPCA.

There are plenty of pleasant walks you can take a dog on around Hobart, but be aware they are not allowed near water reserves or in national parks.

Mount Wellington Reserve is a favourite with locals and is a lot of fun for dogs and owners alike. The lower foothills of the Hobart and Glenorchy sections of the Park include walking tracks and fire trails for dog walking. However, there are a few obedience guidelines to ensure the park’s biodiversity is protected.

In the warmer months, grab your bathers and head to one of Hobart’s many dog-friendly beaches. The Short Beach near the Marieville Esplanade is a popular spot with an off-leash area for your pup to explore as well as a community park and playground for the kids overlooking the River Derwent.

• Buy dog treats and fresh produce at the Salamanca market
• Treat your dog at the Market’s RSPCA Puppy Parking
• Go on an adventure in the Mount Wellington reserve
• Run free on Short Beach
• Walk along the Marieville Esplanade and park
