Find Pet-friendly Accommodation in Mackay

Mackay is located on the mouth of the Pioneer River, 970 kilometres north of Brisbane.

Compared to many of its neighbours, Mackay's tourism industry is still developing, despite being close to Eungella National Park, the Great Barrier Reef, and the Whitsunday Islands.

The city’s ambitious Bluewater Trail project is a favourite with locals and visitors alike, and it is the perfect place to exercise your dog on a leash.

The trail has more than 20 kilometres of dedicated pedestrian paths and bikeways linking several attractions including the Bluewater Lagoon, the Bluewater Quay and the Mackay Regional Botanic Gardens. It also incorporates the Sandfly Creek walkway through East Mackay, and the Cathy Freeman Walk, which connects West Mackay to the city under the Ron Camm Bridge.

If you’re looking for a place where your pup can roam free, head to one of the region’s pet-friendly parks or beaches, such as Police Dog Tunza Dog Park or the beloved Sarina beach.

Things to do with your dog in Mackay:

• Run or walk along the Bluewater Trail
• Swim and splash around at Sarina beach
• Throw a tennis ball at Police Dog Tunza Dog Park
