As the Northern Territory’s thriving capital, Darwin attracts travellers from all around the globe looking to experience its unique tropical outdoor lifestyle.

Most parks, reserves and beaches in Darwin have designated off-leash areas where you can also expect amenities like shade-giving trees and bins and areas where you can have a seat; however, if you’re looking for something a little special you can’t beat Marlow Lagoon.

Marlow Lagoon Pet Park features obstacle courses with eight fun activities at its western end, drinking troughs and designated off-leash areas. The park is enormous and includes endless walking trails, two playgrounds and shaded picnic areas; it’s perfect for a full day out with the whole family.

If you want to get closer to nature without straying too far from the city, head to Holmes Jungle Nature Park. The park is one of the few remaining monsoon jungles in the territory. Remember to keep your pup on a leash to protect native wildlife.

Get some fresh sea air by taking your dog for a walk on the beautiful Casuarina Beach between Rapid Creek and Dripstone Cliffs. The views are breathtaking, and it happens to be one of the most popular dog-walking spots in Darwin, so you’re sure to find some furry friends play with.

For something completely different, head along to the George Brown Darwin Botanic Gardens. Unlike most botanic gardens, it allows dogs off leash and offers a great scenic spot for a long walk or family picnic.

If you prefer a less active look at the gardens why not enjoy your breakfast at Eva’s Botanical Café. Dogs are welcomed with open arms and can have a refreshing drink while you sit back and chill.

Things to do with your dog in the Darwin:

• Test your dog’s agility at Marlow Lagoon
